Hello There

Did I say to you about Hugo being booked to jump for 3 days at Hickstead last week?

For various reasons I was convinced he and Daisy weren’t ready. I’d forgotten Daisy does some Musical Theatre which involves breathing and acting the part. I guess I’d forgotten as well that getting a horse ready for an event is something ‘I can do’, though possibly the last time was Pie at Royal Windsor for the £1000 winner BHS Trec – some years back!

Pie at Royal Windsor for the £1000 winner BHS Trec – some years back!

We weren’t 100% ready but looks like Hugo is becoming the poster child for the IH Online Horse Psychology Course. Last September soon after he arrived it was all vet checks, procedures, box rest, in hand walking, groundwork, water treadmill, physio and other treatments mixed up with love (oops – will I get jumped on for not being ‘scientific’?!) and last week his first jumping classes with us at Hickstead and we couldn’t be prouder of him (or Daisy).

Although I thought he would be tired after a long three days, watch this video of Hugo after the event (music up!).

I won’t overwhelm you with details of the Online Horse Psychology Course, but here are some details if you haven’t done it before – and quite a few people have retaken it, especially if they originally took it in the classroom (and they get a 50% discount).

It starts on Tuesday, October 7th 8 pm (recordings available). A brief outline of the online Horse Psychology course is:

  • Week 1 – Pros and Cons of using food in equine training
  • Week 2 – Recognising when it’s Pain not Brain with horses
  • Week 3 – Behaviourism Part 1
  • Week 4 – Behaviourism & BEYOND Part 2
  • Week 5 – The Brain & Senses
  • Week 6 – The Problem-Solving Procedure
  • Week 7 – How people (inadvertently) teach horses to be bad? (and how can we reverse this?)
  • Week 8 – Solving Real Life ‘Horse Problems’

You have email access to the brilliant Sandra Williams and me during the course.

I’ll spam you with testimonials next week 🤣, but meanwhile, you can look at our reviews on the Product, Google and Facebook.

More of the Hugo story coming out in the Intelligent Horsemanship Magazine due October 1st (approximately!)

The thing is with getting the best from horses and ourselves, in my opinion, it’s not just One Thing. The Magic is in the Mix. And that’s what I want to explore with you during the Horse Psychology weeks.

I love doing it because it reminds me of things I may have forgotten!

Lots of Love

Kelly x
