Daisy took him to some clinics and did a lovely dressage test on him at Addington, but he wasn’t the horse for her. She said she felt perched on top of him. Not surprising as Barney was reaching 17.2 hh and growing. With Daisy at 5ft 2 it wasn’t a match made in heaven. Although I enjoyed riding him while he stayed with me for a while, I could see her point. Which brings me to ‘The Horse Will Tell You’ saying – which came from Monty when I’d just decided Pie was ‘The One’ – you know how that goes. Pie wasn’t the obvious choice for me at that time and, seeking guidance I questioned Monty when I realised I’d got this 15hh little horse I intended to keep for life. I said: ‘Monty, I’ve got this little horse now but what am I going to DO with him?’ and Monty answered, ‘The horse will tell you’. Which, to be honest, I thought was a bit woo at the time but now I see, no, not at all, of course he was completely right. On the Online Horse Psychology course, (the next one starting on the 13th January) we cover various subjects, including how, in the Monty vs Traditional Science Trial, they did an ‘umbrella test’ to help match the horses equally for each trainer. I show a version of the Umbrella Test I did with the three I had at home at the time – and at 4 years old this was Barney … if you want to see Blondie and Pie's reactions, join the next horse psychology course ! | | Watching this we joked he’d make a police horse. We weren’t far out… earlier this year, with the help of a very good friend who specialises in such matters, Barney landed himself a wonderful home for life with a family who love him. He now lives at Windsor Great Park with an on site vet and physiotherapist and more than ample turnout. With his new rider Matthew he will be doing some cross country as well as lots of hacking in the park and ALSO last week he passed his Light Cavalry Inspection for the Household Guards and is likely to be on parade at the Lord Mayor's Show and Parade in London this November. We are very proud of you Barney! MUSIC UP! | | Have you ever had a horse tell you what he’d like to do? Yes I know ‘eat’ – but I mean as a career choice to enrich human lives as well as keeping themselves engaged and healthy? Talking of which do you know the story of ‘Snowman’? The $80 Amish plough horse who was on his way to the killer pens? Here’s the trailer for the documentary, make sure you have the sound up! I have to have tissues just for the trailer … | | What you don’t see in the trailer was that Harry sold Snowman to a neighbour – but he kept jumping out of his field and coming ‘home’.
