Lucinda Green – Cross Country

Lucinda Green, Eventing Legend, talked about the paradox in cross country “My horse must think for himself. My horse must listen to me”.

She emphasised What3Words – Fair Clear Consistent will take you to the place you want to go.

Lucinda talked about how to get the right line cross country jumping you need to “cuddle the horse with your legs”.  “Imagine your eyeballs at the front of your calves”.  And so much more!  I’ll get written up for the Spring Summer IH Magazine (I promise!)

 Christopher Bartle – Yorkshire Riding School

I had a lesson at the Yorkshire Riding School with Chris Bartle years back and I have his book, so I was already aware that he emphasises Rider Position with the reins and posture, and one must prepare the horse and teach the aids clearly from the beginning.  

 He states for cross country, ‘the horse hasn’t walked the course!’ equally for rein aids he says

‘The horse doesn’t know a pain in his mouth means to slow down’.    

My words now: “If you use pressure, it’s the release that teaches”.  

Maybe that should be on a poster in every tackroom?
