“Real Horses. Real People. Real Problems… and How We Solve Them – Help Us Spread The Word” – Email 22

Hello ,

This week marked the final lesson of our October Horse Psychology Course — Kelly and Sandra finished with one of my favourite topics: real-life horse problems.

More specifically… solving them.

Putting skills into practice. Using IH techniques and procedures to help you handle almost any situation — or at least know the right first steps to take when things get tricky.

Because that’s what Intelligent Horsemanship is really all about:

REAL people. REAL horses. REAL problems… and REAL solutions.

While we cover the classic IH training challenges — loading, clipping, napping, confidence issues, conditioned fears and all the rest — we’re just as committed to helping people understand the whole horse.

That means recognising when problems stem from management, environment, pain, illness or injury, even though they often show up as “behaviour”.

It’s why we bring you such a wide range of webinars and articles from top-tier equine professionals across every corner of the horse world… and, frankly, life.

And of course, if you’re an IH Member, you’ll now know you can find all this content neatly gathered in the new Members’ Area.

But… here’s a little recap of a few of the Real People, Real Horses, Real Problems you’ll find there.

– Abi & The IH Team

Real Horses. Real People. Real Problems.

Mounting Manners — Anyone Remember This One?

Kelly and the fabulous IH video crew went out to visit Carol, Carley and Natalie to help with three very different horses:

  • Molly — the professional bum-swinger
  • Dawn — the unmountable
  • Star — the serial wanderer

Three owners, three horses, three mounting issues — and a whole bunch of lightbulb moments.

Nappy Horse Nightmares

Friends and owners Jackie, Paula, and the Martin family join Kelly and Dr Rosie Jones McVey at IH HQ with their three nappy horses: Cash — The Whirling Wonder, Fenella — the Back-Up Ballerina, and Robin — The Professional Planter.

Together, they explore a range of techniques for understanding and working with nappy behaviour — and, more importantly, what these horses might be trying to tell us.

 Facing the Friesians

In this episode Monty and Kelly work with  Cow-Shy-Calypso, Sally-Ann’s 11 year old  Thoroughbred cross Irish sports horse with an extreme fear of cows.

Calypso’s fear of cows is on the extreme end of the spectrum, so Monty and Kelly take him through a calm, structured process of gradual exposure, acceptance training, and understanding — showing how equine phobias can be eased with patience, clarity, and the right approach.
